Recipe # 26 – Mega homemade cheeseburgers

I think once, and only once, as a child I attempted this, making my own burgers, I mean why bother when you can walk into any convenient supermarket and buy hamburger patties… well try this just once and you’ll NEVER buy a patty again.

Some meals are easy to make, others easy to prepare and others require you to get your hands dirty, this is one of those meals. No shortcuts, you want patties? Make em! From the breadcrumbs (waste not, want not, made them from the ciabata crust from a previous recipe) to getting your hands messy with the ground beef/mince, it is all you.

The key ingredient here is cumin, which is largely used in Indian cooking, and give the patties a very fragrant, almost sweet taste.

The salad is simple, I adapted it somewhat using a gem lettuce, mixed together with some watercress.

The recipe calls for pickled green chillies, though I was the only one brave enough to add this as a topping and am glad a did, they put the zing in zinger, the only dangerous side effect is that I now have a craving to add them to other dishes and have been eating them whole throughout the day… we all have our vices.

A quick 20 minute meal that I highly recommend, it will definitely be making future appearances in our household.
