Creamy chicken, leek and ham pie & Chocolate chilli and coconut pastries
Having completed my Jamie Oliver ’20 minute meals’ app challenge, succeeding in cooking all 60 recipes in under 90 days, I’ve decided to take on another challenge. This time it will be a little more organic and not governed by a time line.
Jamie and the Zolmo team have just released ‘Jamie’s Recipes’, a brand new iPhone app in a similar vain to ’20 minute meals’, though the format is open and allows you to buy ‘booster packs’ adding to your virtual library of recipes.
The best part is the app itself is FREE, you get a great starter pack and a couple videos and you then can buy additional packs at your leisure.
I decided to start off with ‘Classic Comfort Food’ and the dish of the day is was this lovely creamy chicken, leek and ham pie.
Now while it is simple to prepare, it is no 20 minute meal. It has bake for for at least that and as I’ll show in future posts, some can take HOURS, not minutes, so plan ahead, unless you like eating just before midnight…
First you whip up the stuffing, a mix of the chicken, leek & ham with a fusion of spices including nutmeg, thyme, garlic, a bay leaf and a personal fav… cider.
Sometimes recipes and ingredients don’t always cross the great divide, so thanks to my fellow tweeters for their tweets, not only deciphering what the cider was, but also for the selection/options. Sadly the one I wanted wasn’t in stock, being Everson’s, so I had to settle for a competitor.
After applying my skilled pasty work (anyone who knows me know that is complete fabrication) I placed the pie in the oven, and for some reason couldn’t get ‘Chicken Run’ out of my head… 20 minutes later out popped the pie, which was devoured with a side salad made up of from our allotment greens.
Not wanting to let the extra pastry go to waste my wife decided to bake up a couple delightful chocolate chilli & coconut pastries to end off our mains with.
All in all a great meal and a great start to this new chapter in my proverbial ‘cooks’ book.

Yum. I repeat. Yum.
Thanks so much to you both, +1 on the resourceful wife and it WAS yum, yum indeed!
Those pastries were such a good idea. Resourceful wives are fantastic.
Looks divine! Getting the book for Christmas, cannot wait to get my grubby little hands on it! :-)
It was yummy and easy to prepare, something I admire about Jamie and his style of cooking.
